Mike is a 1995 graduate of Morehouse College, Atlanta, Georgia.

In 2006, Mike earned his M.A. in Guidance and Counseling from Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, Louisiana.

Since 2009, Mike has been enrolled in the Ed. D., Educational Leadership Program in the Louisiana Education Consortium. The Consortium consists of Grambling State University, Louisiana Tech University, and the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He was elected to serve as the 2011-2012 President of the Association of Doctoral Students.
